Profiles in Pseudo-Courage

James Oliphant reports that "Bill Clinton says if he were president, he would not hesitate to raise the debt-ceiling himself under authority he argues is granted by the U.S. Constitution." Really? Many if not most scholars -- including Harvard's Laurence Tribe (who once taught a bright young student named Barack Obama) -- think the Big Dog is on very shaky constitutional grounds. Moreover, Clinton's remarks are gratuitous and self-serving. It's easy to wax macho when one's butt is no longer on the hot seat. Clinton had his chance to make a historic presidency. But he left his best work in the sheets. I liked him (sorta) and I supported him (mostly). But I never trusted him. This is why.
