OMG! Is ... Is Bachmann Done?

Pass the hankies. There is audible sobbing and soliloquies of lament across the liberal bloggerverse as it reluctantly asks: Is Bachmann done? That's the question Talking Points Memo posed today. "We're still in the era of Bachmannia, coming off Rep. Michele Bachmann's win in the Ames Straw Poll. But new poll data to be officially released later today say Bachmann has peaked and is already losing support as Perry takes her spot as the candidate of the far-right," wrote Josh Marshall, his voice cracking. Woe is us. "Bachmannia" of course was always an invention of the media, by the media, and for the media (who hoped for ratings sake that this 3-ring circus would not perish from this earth, at least not quickly). The fact is that outside of Iowa and GOP activist circles, most Americans couldn't pick Bachmann out of a line-up. She was never going to be the GOP nominee let alone president. But the media needed a Palin replacement (who is so yesterday). Ergo, Bachmann became the It Girl. But now, I suppose, swinging at the Texan piñata known as Rick Perry will have to do. Of course there's always a chance that Palin will make a zombie-like return engagement. Know hope.
