Why is this man laughing?

Meanwhile, back in the Theater of the Absurd, this just in from the New York Times: "Prosecutors in the office of Cyrus R. Vance Jr., the Manhattan district attorney, have filed papers requesting that all charges be dropped against Dominique Strauss-Kahn, the former head of the International Monetary Fund." This development comes as no surprise, of course. Yes, DSK must be presumed innocent (though his behavior in this affair seemed suspect). And yes, the Manhattan Maid's credibility appears dubious (which is why the case fell apart). In retrospect, Ms. Diallo never really stood a chance against this powerful man and his high-priced lawyers. Still, why does this feel like another episode of the Rich-White-Guy-Gets-Away-With-Murder-Again? But you can be sure of two things: We'll never know what really happened. And, second, DSK will be laughing all the way to Paris on the first-class flight back to his vie de luxe.
