Uh, oh ... not Paul Ryan

Now that the Draft Chris Christie Movement is apparently DOA, Republican savior-hunters are now trotting out Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI). This draft movement too will likely die a horrible death. I won't bore you with Ryan's background (it's as boring as he is). But since I use TNR's Jon Chait as a "canary in a coal mine" for this stuff, this riff raised the hair on the back of my neck: "Some liberals say the notion of a Ryan candidacy is nuts, because his economic program is too extreme or because his resume is too light. [He's only 41] Those are valid objections. But Ryan has created a public persona for himself that commands unassailable prestige within the Republican Party and turns political reporters into fawning groupies." That's not good. However, Chait is sometimes wrong. Here's hoping he's misreading this one, too.
