Toldja, America. I Got This.

POLITICO pines for a Spike-the-Football Moment. "Once again, there will be no flight suit photo op or 'Mission Accomplished' banner for Barack Obama. The ouster of Libyan dictator Muammar Qadhafi represents yet another military victory for a president long cast as a gun-shy liberal uncomfortable with the use of force." Cast by whom? By POLITICO and its infantile imitators of course. Even my-favorite-liberal, Steve Benen, did some uncharacteristic hand-wringing over the issue: Maybe Obama should "do more chest-thumping and take more victory laps" to get the credit he deserves, and "reinforce the image of Obama as a skillful and effective leader." News Flash to Everybody: Obama doesn't need to prove his foreign policy street cred to America. It knows he got game. Killing bin Laden sealed his rep as "Da Man." Knocking off Qaddafi's regime is just another notch on the Presidential Glock, so to speak. When we intervened in Libya six months ago, Obama effectively told America: "Chill. I got this." The pundits freaked. Americans didn't. They just waited for their president to make his trademark 3-point shot at the crucial game moment. He did. Scratch another despot. Americans prefer the Strong, Silent Type, a role for which Obama is well-suited. To put it in Hollywood terms, we're more impressed with cool and clever (think George Clooney) than swaggering bravado (think Vin Diesel). Moreover, Obama is playing for history, not tomorrow's polls. Therefore, he feels no need to dress up in a flight suit to prove his manhood. He just gets the job done.
