The Day the Earth Shook (sort of)

CALIFORNIANS everywhere (me included) are giggling. DC, New York and the Carolinas were just jolted by a 5.9 earthquake. The last time East Coasters were hit by a quake of this size was 1897. Needless to say, they're freaking out. It sounded like a FREIGHT TRAIN! The Washington Post website crashed immediately. Which was odd. Other than a broken water pipe at the Pentagon, DC suffered no injuries or damage. So I'm confident the Post building is still standing. Naturally, the cable news networks (all of them) have shifted into full-tilt, breathless reporting mode. Because who cares a whit about Qaddafi and Libya, right? In LA, a trembler of this magnitude would barely warrant a yawn. Anyway, here's hoping Washington politicians will view this as a warning from God: Last chance, knuckleheads, or I'll let Mother Nature really go all Disaster Movie on you. Only in America.
