Thar's gold in them thar books

As POLITICO reports, Rick Perry's book, "Fed Up!" is proving to be a goldmine for oppo researchers and detractors alike. And it's not as if the tome was written 20 years ago by a younger, even dumber version of Perry. It hit the bookstores only late last year. "Social Security" is a “violent” attack on core American values, the Texican writes in one vitriolic passage. Most folks over 65 would beg to differ. Anyway, Perry is now waving the white flag. "I wouldn't have written that book if I was going to run for the presidency of the United States," he concedes. Right. To paraphrase Samuel Johnson, lack of forethought and lame excuses are the last refuges of the scoundrel.
