Tigers and cougars and sex, oh my!

Why, oh why, do we humans try to assign human emotions to wild, instinct-driven animals? The LA Times reported that El Paso Zoo officials were flummoxed about why a Malayan tiger on loan from the San Diego Zoo killed her intended mate last week. The humans believe the killing stemmed from a "love triangle." You see, Tigress Seri might have killed Wzui (a libidinous male tiger) because she might have been "jealous of Wzui's attention toward Melor, an older female tiger. Evidently, Melor, that hussy, was really a tigerish cougar. "The male tiger Wzui likes both females, but the two females don't like each other," said one zoo official. Ergo, Seri went all Kill Bill Volume 2 on horn-dog Wzui. Yeah, right. Seri slaughtered her potential mate simply because her inner beast felt like it. I seriously doubt it had anything to do with the cut of Wzui's jib or the fact that Melor is a slut. It was primal instinct. Period. Is that so hard to understand? After all, it's not as if we humans haven't been doing the same thing since time immemorial.
