At 21:01 a.m. this morning, the detail snapped to attention and marched "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" outside into the darkness. After 50 paces or so, they duly ushered the policy to the dustbin of history. There was no 21-gun salute, or even Taps. "Good riddance" summed up the mood. President Obama said: "Today, the discriminatory law known as 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell' is finally and formally repealed. As of today, patriotic Americans in uniform will no longer have to lie about who they are in order to serve the country they love." Thanks to a courageous president, America moved an inch closer to a "more perfect union." Go USA.
