A proverbial two-fer
In two sentences, Steve Benen succinctly underscores a pair of points I've made on The Portal repeatedly: (a) Don't waste life watching the talking head shows, and (b) Michele Bachmann is certifiably crazy. Reminding us again of her woeful lack of intellectual and leadership skills, Benen writes: "For anyone who's paid any attention to Bachmann's career, those questions are long overdue. When she was little more than a go-to clown -- a politician the cable-show bookers could count on to say strange things on national television -- concerns about her connection to reality didn't seem especially important to the political mainstream. But with a national spotlight shining on her presidential campaign, it's dawning on some folks to stop and say, 'Wait, she appears to be a crazy person.' " Benen is gratified that people are finally raising questions about Bachmann’s "judgment and maturity," two traits this woman has never been burdened with. But I suspect anyone with their eyes open deduced this from the start. The moral of this story is two-fold: (a) cable talk shows exist mainly for ratings not enlightenment, and (b) it's high time voters stop kowtowing to politicians who make a virtue of dumbitude. For those who appreciate the poetry of things, note the perfect, symbiotic relationship between empty-suited politicians and the media that embellish them. Neither can prosper without the other. So thick is the Warholian irony, you could use it for bricking.
