Our way or the highway
Aiden Wilson Tozer, an American preacher (1897-1963), did not have politics in mind when he said: "We are not diplomats but prophets, and our message is not a compromise but an ultimatum." But in view of the budget impasse and political rigidity of the people causing it, it might as well be the formal motto of the Tea Party. This "shoe" fits rather comfortably on tea-partiers, methinks. But as history has repeatedly shown, the inevitable tumult caused by uncompromising true believers inevitably compromises us all. Too bad it is a lesson that we have to keep re-learning.
