A clue to Obama's Enigma Code

To paraphrase Churchill, President Barack Obama is a riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma. In an interesting piece, the NYT's Peter Baker takes the latest whack at Obama code-breaking. Renown presidential historian Robert Dallek probably comes as close as anyone has in decrypting the president's Enigma cipher. He told Baker: “How does [Obama] define himself against this wave of conservative rhetoric and ideology? It’s hard for him to say I’m an old-fashioned New Deal, Great Society liberal. He can’t say that and expect to win reelection. So you fudge. It’s like what they said about Roosevelt being a chameleon on plaid, changing coloration and shifting forms. But it’s much more difficult now because of the 24/7 news cycle.”
