A matter of character

A contrite Anthony Weiner said he engaged in "inappropriate" telephone and email conversations with six women over three years. That doesn’t begin to describe his behavior. So let’s be clear: Weiner (age 46) engaged in low-tech phone sex and high-tech sexting (via cell, Twitter, Facebook and email); and sent explicit photos of his male parts to women he “met” online. Weiner committed these acts both before and after his marriage to Huma Abedin (the longtime personal aide to Hillary Clinton), a woman he wedded in grand fashion less than a year ago. Then, in the wake of his infamous crotch exposure on Twitter, Weiner promptly gave interviews to every major news outlet like an earnest Boy Scout, looked reporters like CNN’s Wolf Blitzer straight in the eye, and flat-out LIED about every facet of his sexapades – for an entire week. Only when it became clear that the media had dug up proof of his misbehavior did the congressman capitulate and publicly confess. Yes, lecherous behavior is not a crime. But this episode speaks volumes about Weiner’s lack of judgment, integrity and character. And unless he changes, this guy has no business being in public office – or a marriage.
