Gale warning for the media?

Anyone who reads this blog knows I take the news media out to the wood shed regularly. Call it tough love. But perhaps all is not lost. A new poll found that "more than half of Americans say they are ‘tuning out’ news coverage/reporting (55 percent) and opinion pieces/editorials (52 percent) because of what they consider as uncivil commentary. That's potentially good news. Maybe, just maybe, if we hit 'em where it hurts (falling viewers/readers = falling revenue), then we might start getting better news products. Since, as Edward R. Murrow once said, "We cannot make good news out of bad practice," let's hope we're approaching a tipping point that forces positive change.
