Dissing Vick

Star Eagle quarter Michael Vick can’t catch a break. Apart from his recent heroics on the gridiron, Vick is back in the news because he’s landed a commercial endorsement (Nissan), his first since being released from prison. From all accounts, Vick has been a model citizen since his run-in with the law over dog fighting. But the media continues to drape him in prison orange. “Would you buy a car from ex-dogfighter Michael Vick?” exclaimed a headline in USA Today. While (rightly) slamming a biased Fox News editor, the Atlantic’s Andrew Sullivan (wrongly) dragged Vick into it, writing: “It would be like appointing Michael Vick in charge of an animal shelter.” Both of these characterizations are gratuitous. Vick has paid his debt to society. Leave the guy alone.
