Press reelects Bill Clinton

HERE is a classic example of why all presidents come to loath the press. Yesterday, President Obama wisely turned to former President Clinton for advice about dealing with the newly empowered Republicans in Congress. The Big Dog faced similar circumstances during his tenure. Makes sense, right? Obama was impressed by what Clinton said. Going all rational on us, he thought the press and public would benefit by hearing Clinton's thoughts, too. After their Oval Office meeting, Clinton was allowed to hold forth alone in the White House briefing room. The media promptly ignored the substance and zeroed in on the optics. The headline: Obama Relinquishes Presidency. “Ex-president's solo turn in White House briefing room seems at least a temporary handoff of power by Obama as he struggles to right own presidency,” wrote Dan Balz of the Washington Post with a straight face. The notion is laughable. Is there any wonder why journalists rank right up there with used car salesmen?
