Incoming artillery

Well, it certainly appears to be Sarah Palin Day. And the Long Knives from the right are coming out.

Earlier this week, Krauthammer said about Palin:
"Now I would have hoped she'd spend the next years getting really deep into policy and becoming an expert the way a lot of other candidates have done as they mature and approach the presidency. She hasn't. She has a political star. She's out there, she's very attractive both politically and ideologically to a large segment of Republicans. But I think if you want to expand your base you have to get into policy even though it sounds dull."
Don't hold your breath. Anyway, those remarks triggered Palin's "hoity-toity" remarks (discussed in my earlier post). That, in turn, unleashed two slashing attacks from a Republican duet at Commentary Magazine:
Jonathan S. Tobin: "So, rather than taunting people like Krauthammer, who merely said aloud what so many others are thinking about her unpresidential demeanor, maybe Sarah Palin ought to be waking up to the fact that she is simply unelectable."

Peter Wehner: "Jonathan, I agree with your superb analysis of Sarah Palin’s interview with Bill O’Reilly — and specifically, her response to what Charles Krauthammer said. Virtually every time Ms. Palin speaks out, she reinforces some of the worst impressions or deepest concerns many of us have about her. If she were to become the voice and representative of the GOP and the modern conservatism movement, both would suffer a massive rejection. Sarah Palin will not be elected president; and for her sake, I hope she decides not to run."
This one-two punch is only the beginning. And do I think Palin will ultimately buckle under the coming onslaught? You betcha.
