Epic Navel Gazing

Slate.com reporter/blogger David Weigel today asked, "Is it a slow enough news day to speculate about primary challenges to Barack Obama?" He concludes "yes," and then regales us with polling that shows Obama would easily beat Hillary in a "never-going-to-happen primary challenge" in 2012. So, is the news really so slow that it justifies this grand exercise in contemplating one's navel? Let's see: 1) Terrorist threat forces CIA station chief to leave Pakistan. 2) The president signs the big tax-cut deal into law. Obama closing in on major wins in lame-duck Congress. 3) The smart money says DADT will be repealed. 4) Records show concerns about another BP rig. Yep, today is a real sleeper. None of these piddling news items matter to you, right? And the political press wonders why it is so distrusted.
