Budget impasse - Cont'd

BEFORE I flipped on the news this morning, I had hoped the budget impasse would be over. It wasn't. Still, there is some good news in this melodrama. But first, the bad news: The media is now in hyper-drive in its news coverage, complete with theme music, graphic logos and countdown clocks. You'd think Hurricane Katrina II was headed our way. The not so good news: Less than 6% of Americans are paying attention to the budget fight, per the latest polls. In a perfect world, more should. (Granted, in a perfect world, half the nation should also be marching on Capitol Hill to demand less child-like behavior from Congress. But that's not happening, either.) Now, the good news: Despite 24/7 coverage of the budget impasse, the media have utterly failed to stir the public's interest in the matter. That means the public knows malarkey when it sees it on tv (or the blogs).
