The party of Mordor

Sarcastically, conservative Kathleen Parker asks, "So why do Republicans hate art, the elderly and children?" The non-sarcastic answer: Because they're Republicans. Bada-boom. Oh I kid the GOP. Parker says Republicans are being unfairly demonized for "trying to seriously address our desperately ailing economy." (Actually, the jobless rate is way down and the economy is recovering, but never mind. She's on a roll.) She wonders why, oh why, has the GOP "become the army of Mordor, fat-gobbed predators who feed on children while destroying all that is beautiful in their relentless pursuit of greed?" Quoting Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-Tex.), Parker says you'd think the proposed GOP budget will create "a biblical 'no room at the inn' scenario with lights out, doors wide open and the drumbeat playing as people are being rolled out of nursing homes in wheelchairs, with crutches, some on beds.” And your point? (Oh I kid the GOP again.) Parker then goes all rational on us and observes that "Democrats failed to produce a budget last year, despite controlling the White House and both houses of Congress." Hmm. Good point. Continuing, she said, "Gamesmanship can be entertaining when the stakes are small. But as the president correctly noted, the economy is not child’s play." Hmm. She's right about that, too. Damn. Read Parker's witty piece here.
