The Tao of intervention
The good news is that many great questions are (rightly) being raised about the profound implications of intervening in Libya. The spirited back and forth over the wisdom of doing so and how it’s being executed is thought provoking (See Andrew Sullivan). The bad news is that those doing most of the talking have no idea what’s really going on. No matter their foreign policy or military pedigree, they’re still simply guessing. Now is a good time to remember the ancient words of Taoism founder Lao Tzu: “Those who know, do not speak. Those who speak, do not know.”
