Game-changing words?
For the record: The New York Times’ Nicholas Kristof is a fabulous journalist, columnist and writer. Unfortunately, access to Twitter too easily lets even world-class pros like Kristof say dumb things like this: “I fear Mike Mullen's comment about letting Qaddafi remain in power was unwise, because of the message it sends to Libyan army.” Really, Nick? Do you actually believe Qaddafi’s generals – let alone Libyan troops in the field – were huddled around television sets this morning watching “Meet the Press” and hanging on Admiral Mullen’s every word? Even most Americans don’t watch the show. This is a classic example of the nearly hermetically-sealed bubble top tier journalists live in. Given a moment to reflect (something Twitter discourages), I’m certain Kristof would re-frame his tweet. He knows there’s only one man whose words matter outside of Libya. His name is Barack Hussein Obama.
