Fareed Zakaria: "America has always done better in the role of the reluctant imperialist. The simple fact is that the world does not like its leading military power to be overly eager to intervene in foreign lands." So true. Though it's been over two millennia, the excesses of Rome still linger fitfully in the mind of man. America is not Rome. Still, the world has no wish to truly test that assumption.
