Cat in the Hat

I don't remember precisely when I learned to read as a child. It kinda just happened one day. But I vividly recall absorbing the words and pictures in "The Cat in the Hat." Dr. Seuss, that's Theodor Seuss Geisel, was born this day in 1904 (he died in 1991). Per Wikipedia, his children's books were "characterized by imaginative characters, rhyme, and frequent use of trisyllabic meter." Besides The Cat in the Hat, his best known works include Green Eggs and Ham, Horton Hears a Who!, and How the Grinch Stole Christmas. Remember this?: "We looked! / Then we saw him / step in on the mat! / We looked! / And we saw him! / The Cat in the Hat!" "I know it is wet / And the sun is not sunny. / But we can have / Lots of good fun / that is funny!” Ah, to make a bid, to again be a kid.
