In the annals of 'you gotta be kiddin' me'

In a post headlined "Bachmann As 2007 Obama," Jon Chait writes, "I've been arguing that the dynamic of Michelle Bachmann's campaign is somewhat analogous to Barack Obama's in 2007. Obama trailed badly in the national polls throughout 2007. But he had high favorability seemed to do well among those voters most attuned to the campaign, which suggested that as elections neared and voters paid more attention, he had the potential to win over voters who were not paying attention months and months before any vote." Chait then cites some obsure poll purporting to prove his point. But to use an old cliche, there's a fly in the ointment. Simply put, Bachmann is no Barack Obama. The more folks learned about Obama, the more they liked him. With Bachmann, the opposite is true. Nearly alone among pundits, Chait is deeply invested in his Bachmann-can-win-it-all thesis. If he keeps this up, somebody should start thinking intervention.
