Casey Anthony verdict could aid terrorists?

Senate Minority Leader Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) is opposed to trying captured terrorists in U.S. civilian courts. Why? Casey Anthony. "These are not American citizens. We just found with the Caylee Anthony case how difficult is to get a conviction in a U.S. court," McConnell said on "Fox News Sunday." TPM provided some helpful context: The Anthony case was handled by local prosecutors in a Florida state court, while federal terrorism cases are handled by federal prosecutors from the Justice Department's National Security Division. Oh, and federal prosecutors had an overall 93 percent conviction rate in fiscal year 2010. But never mind the facts. Columnist Al Lewis basically got it right when he said, "America gets the politicians they deserve. That's it. And you keep struggling." Which explains McConnell and our current struggle for political sanity.
