In the tank for Perry

Well, that didn't take long. Drooling, Wall Street Journal columnist Daniel Henninger writes: "On Tuesday night in Manhattan, he gave the keynote at the New York Republicans' Lincoln dinner, and when Rick Perry got soft and quiet—I know this will sound nuts—it had the whiff of that comfy Jimmy Stewart drawl in his cowboy movies." Love at first drawl, eh? Pardon me, but I think a wave of nausea is about to hit me. Wow. It seems Henninger can be bought cheap. So, while we're on the subject, how do Perry and Jimmy Stewart stack up? Perry attended Texas A&M University, where (among other achievements) he was a popular cheerleader. Later, he piloted cargo aircraft (the C-130) as an Air Force captain between wars. Then he went into politics. Jimmy Stewart, too, was a cheerleader - but at Princeton. He became a big-time movie star (winning an Oscar for Best Actor). Then he went to war. Stewart commanded the 703d Bombardment Squadron and flew over 20 missions deep into Nazi Germany. He left active service as a colonel. He won the Distinguished Flying Cross twice. The polar opposite of Perry, Stewart was universally known for his humility. Gee, I wonder who would make a better president?
