The Daley Show

At first glance, Obama’s decision to make William Daley his next chief of staff strikes me as sound. The president opted for a political grown-up who knows Washington but is not of it. His outside-the-bubble perspective will be invaluable. Like Obama, he is a pragmatist. He leans center-left politically. Daley, a member of the famous clan that has run Chicago for decades, is known as an open-minded problem solver. The ex-Commerce Secy (under Clinton) is currently a JP Morgan-Chase executive. Daley’s extensive business ties have already triggered whining on the left. Per the New York Times, Adam Green of BoldProgressives.org said the pick was “a real mistake” and essentially called Daley a corporate lackey. Let's face it: There’s no pleasing those on the starry-eyed left still yearning for Obama to govern West Wing-style. But I do hope Daley turns out to be Obama’s real life Leo McGarry.
