Counting sand – Ctd

WHEN I posted my take on Alvin Greene yesterday, it seems I was 24-hours ahead of the main news cycle. Today, Politico, the Huffington Post and others picked up the bantam and ran with it at full gallop.

As of this writing, Politico’s take has been retweeted 64 times, and the number of comments approached 500 on HuffPo. A quick Google scan revealed that CBS News, New York Daily News, Philadelphia Inquirer and CNN’s Political Ticker blog also ran the story today. The cable news shows can’t be far behind.

I posted this on HuffPo (for all the good it will do) just to throw my two cents into the wind:
“Yes, it is easy to mock Alvin Greene and laugh. But it really isn’t funny. Clearly the poor guy has psychological issues of some sort. And yet the media (including HuffPo) insist on keeping its Krieg lights on Mr. Greene, an unwitting actor in something perilously approaching minstrelsy. Shame on the media. It is well past time for this to stop. And yet, to paraphrase a character ironically named “Greene” in Shakespeare’s Richard II, this plea is about as futile as counting sand. For in the end, sadly, it’s about the page views, stupid.”
The freak show coverage of Mr. Greene is what it is. With luck it will fade away harmlessly, and he’ll get some needed care.
